Communications Academy

UGLE Communications Academy was introduced as a successor to the previous UGLE Digital Workshops, with the primary objective of equipping Provinces and Lodges with valuable resources for effectively managing various communication aspects while staying current with emerging communication trends.

Our sessions encompass key areas of communication and can be customised to cater specifically to the unique requirements of each Province. Among the sessions available, you will find:

  • Communicating to members – Using communications to engage effectively with members
  • Writing a story – getting your story in to FMT and external media
  • How to get the most from your website
  • Making the most of member newsletters – how to use Mailchimp
  • Creating engaging literature, graphics and presentations – how to use design platforms like Canva
  • Photography & Videography on a budget
  • Communicating the new 7-year Strategy (Shaun Butler)
  • How to make the most out of Social Media platforms
  • How to run a digital marketing campaign
  • Coming soon: Communicating the Royal Arch (the narrative is currently being finalised)

The sessions are offered in person or on Zoom and last approximately 90 minutes. The sessions can include tasks for attendees to complete. Activities include:

  • Composing a great social media post (attendees will be asked to compose a social media post using the techniques shared in the sessions.
  • Talking to members (group discussion on topics such as appropriate language and use of photos)
  • Writing an intro to a story that we will give them using the techniques that they have picked up in the session
  • Group discussion on what makes a great website
  • Using an example event from within the group to create a comms plan for the group as part of a discussion
